(More customer reviews)I have seen those green GP ReCyko+ NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargable Batteries during my trips to Asia 2-3 years ago, but never found them in the US. Recently they were available from Amazon at a great price, so I ordered both AA and AAA cells for testing. Here are my findings:
Right out the box, those AA cells contain an average of 1873mAh remaining charge (according to the Discharge/Refresh function of my La Crosse BC-900 Charger). After just one charge/recharge cycle, the average capacity increased to 2228mAh. Note that:
1. The measured average capacity of those cells is 6% higher than the `2100mAh' printed on the package (on each cells it actually says: `Typ. 2050mAh')
2. Those cells arrived with 84% of full capacity, which means they are low-self-discharge type similar to Sanyo Eneloop or Rayovac Hybrid.
The GP ReCyko+ AAA cells performed equally well. After two Discharge/Recharge cycles, the average capacity went up to 880mAh, higher that the advertised '850mAh'. This is even higher than eneloop AAA cells (rated 800mAh, measured ~830mAh)
By comparing the physical shape of their positive and negative terminals, I observed that those GP Recyko+ cells are identical to the Kodak Pre-Charged cells I tested three years ago (See the Customer Image I uploaded to this product page). A comparison of my old notes showed that their electrical characteristics are also nearly identical. This is a good sign because I have used Kodak Pre-Charged cells (both AA and AAA) in the past three years without any problems. The long-term self-discharge rate of Kodak Pre-Charged also compares favorably to Sanyo eneloop.
There is, however, one physical limitation: the GP/Kodak AA cells are slightly thicker than both eneloop and Hybrid. So they may not fit in appliance with very tight battery compartment, such as my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Mouse.
As of his writing, those GP ReCyko+ cells are priced at about 30-40% less than other name-brand LSD cells. That makes them an excellent value. Of course the white eneloop cell looks better, but remember: it is the inside of the battery that counts.
