(More customer reviews)I purchased 3 units. Two of them worked fine on all settings. One of them did not work as a slave. (this is disappointing)
The slave mode can be used within a few feet. The flash units are nice if you have a wireless flash trigger.
The reload time after a flash is a few seconds on a new battery. The flash is strong and a diffuser is needed for nice light. They are small and easy to carry around.

The device is workable for both direct hot shoe photography (when switches to Normal mode) and remote flash photography (when switches to Slave On mode.
