(More customer reviews)I have previously reviewed the Duracell Mobile Charger CEF23DX4N and highly recommended it. I liked the package for many reasons:
- Smart charger with individual battery status indicators (Red=charging, Green=done)
- Charger can work from universal AC voltage (100-240V AC) and also 12V car battery
- Charger doubles as a battery-powered USB charger (up to 1A at 5V output)
- Comes with good quality pre-charged NiMH cells.
Unfortunately, Duracell has discontinued the CEF23 charger in the U.S. market about two years ago, so prices for the dwindling inventory have skyrocketed.
The package you see here (Duracell Mobile Charger with 4 AA Rechargeable NiMH Batteries, CEF23AU) contains a similar-looking charger. However, notice that its model number is CEF23AU, which means Australian version. The charger uses two angled flat prongs for AC input, instead of two parallel flat prongs designed for US outlets. The package contains a US plug adapter. But with the plug adapter installed, the charger unit now sticks out from the AC outlet, making it difficult to stay securely plugged either in vertical or horizontal positions. The only safe way to use it is to add a short AC extension cord, and let the charger rest on its side.
Other than the AC plug, the charger itself is identical to the US version. Some other differences between those two packages are:
- The US package (CEF23DX4N) comes with 2xAA and 2xAA Precharged cells, plus a 12V Cigarette Lighter Adapter cable.
- The Australian package (CEF23AU) comes with 4xAA precharged cells, but no CLA cable.
Bottom Line:
If you really wanted to get a hold of the excellent Duracell CEF23, then this Australian version package is still worth considering - especially since you can get it at a much lower price.
