(More customer reviews)The DVD player was excellent while it was working. Speakers were loud enough for my son to hear in the car on the interstate (albeit at max volume). Screen resolution was better than any other player of its class (size and price). Carrying case offers little padding for the unit, but was not too hard to use as a headrest holder in the car. The headphones were comfortable and made listening in the car much better. And, the adapter cable was a life savor when our home DVD player broke and we needed an instant substitute for the distrought two year old. Great bang for the buck until it broke.
My D1998PK has been exhibiting manufacturing and repair quality problems. After a week of contacting Audiovox warranty repair (actually hung up on one rep who was extremely rude--first time I've ever done that--cross your fingers you get Lisa if you do have to call), I finally was able to get a return label and sent my unit in for repair: one week UPS delivery time. One more week for the "repair" to be made. One more week for UPS delivery back to me. Tried unit: it was actually WORSE than when I sent it out for repair! Not only was original problem not solved, but new problem rendered unit completely useless. How the quality control inspector could pass this repair is beyond me!
Now, I have to wait AGAIN: for a new return label (heaven knows how long this will take!); one week for UPS delivery to Audiovox; one week for new repair (confidence in repairs being very low, I'm really hoping for a replacement this time); and, one week for delivery back to me. One more month without our portable DVD player. I was relieved to get the unit back from the first repair in time for our summer vacation, but now I'm SOL. Not very likely to be buying Audiovox or any related brands again.
The good news: Had I bought the D1988PK model, I would have only had a 90 day warranty and the unit would have become an expensive desktop DVD player (the screen is useless, but hooking it up to an external monitor worked fine until it came back from "repair"). Fortunately, the D1998PK model has a 12 month warranty!
