Pros:
- Very cheap for a smart charger.
- Pretty fast at charging batteries. Takes something like 5 hours (I didn't keep track) for 4 dead Energizer 2500mAH nimh AA's. Much faster than my old dumb charger that just threw current at the batteries without regard for how full the batteries were.
- The microprocessor seems to be pretty good. Unplugging the charger with just charged batteries and plugging the charger back in causes the microprocessor to notice in a few minutes that the batteries are already charged and the LED's go to green.
- Manual claims that once the charging cycle is finished (LED's go green), the charger trickle charges.
- It is UL listed (class 2 battery charger, with some codes: 35JC; E204717)
- Universal AC adapter. Nice when traveling, not only because it works in any country, but because this design makes the charger very light (no heavy wall-wart transformer inside).
- Folding plug!
Cons:
- Charges in pairs. (you need two dead batteries to charge)
- Smells. It smells like chemicals, and does so especially while charging. At its worst, it can be smelled from a body-length's away. Edit... A month later... I left the charger outside on the porch for a week and it smells much better now (just a trace of chemicals)
Notes:
Batteries get hot when charging, but quick charging always does this.
I kept the package that the charger came in (it is reusable) and store it in there.
I didn't try Ni-cads, but for Ni-mh AA and AAA batteries, this charger does a good job.
Specs: Output 1.5V, 450mA. Dimensions: 106x66x30.5mm. Weight: 82g. Operating Temp 0-45C
