(More customer reviews)The best 8 slot charger that I have found for AA/AAA batteries. it does all that it claims and it is easy to find a car cigarette lighter adapter for it (no voltage reduction needed). The transformer output is 12 volt 1.3 amps and has a positive center on the connector. This made it great for mounting in my travel trailer and plugging it into the 12 volt accessory plug by the TV so it can run right off the trailers batteries.
8 slots is great for my metal detectors batteries since both use 8 AA batteries. Also the back light makes it easy to see at what state the batteries are and the discharge charge feature helps keep your batteries working their best (suggested use is once every 5th recharge for NiCD and once every 10th recharge for NiMH). I forgot where I read that but there it is anyway.
When a battery is fully charged the battery indicator will stay solid. When a battery's voltage is below 0.5 volts the battery indicator will show full BUT will flash on and off and it won't charge it. Below is how I bring mine back up enough to get them to start taking a charge.
I resurrect completely dead batteries by holding small strips of aluminum foil to a good battery and a dead battery at the same time for about 1 minute then sliding the dead one in a charger while still holding them together and continuing holding them for about 30 more seconds before removing the good battery from the connection. Positive to positive ++ and negative to negative --. Dull side of the foil to the battery connections.
Another way is to put a good one in with a bad one in an old rapid charger that puts 2 batteries in a row stacked -+-+. Letting them charge for 30 minutes to 1 hour before removing the dead one and putting it in a the smart charger.
Only thing I had go wrong was when removing the decals from the displays one of the clear plastic covers came off with the decal but I just pressed it back on. No real problem.
Now if you don't need or want 8 slots and just want the best AA/AAA charger then take a look at the 4 slot "La Crosse Technology BC-9009 AlphaPower Battery Charger" which has features which this one lacks (especially useful for refreshing NiCD batteries) and finding out just how many mAh's a battery holds.
