Whistler XTR-185 Solar Powered Cordless Radar Detector Review

I purchased this to replace an Passport that was very happy with, but I wanted a unit that was cordless. If you are considering the XTR-185 because it is cordless, don't bother. The battery life is very poor. Even after sitting in bright sunlight all day long, the unit will only run for about 1.5 - 2 hours. I find myself still having to plug it in frequently.

I don't know what I expecting at that price but ....It is really poor quality. No operating instructions at all. Do yourself a favor and buy Nikon or equal. Spend the 200 - 300 bucks and get the quality product. This is a piece of crap.
It was shipped immediately but I am extremely disappointed.

Sony DSCP32 Cybershot 3.2MP Digital Camera Review

Sony DSCP32 Cybershot 3.2MP Digital Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
THREE YEARS LATER -- A REVIEW
I have now taken 9,800 photos with this camera!
It has been bumped, dropped and exposed to hostile climates for extended periods of times (The camera has spend most of it's life in Arabia with severe temperatures, dust and high humidity.) but no real horror stories like falling down concrete stairs. Still, it works fine.
SOFTWARE: I have totally given up with the bundled software. I tried to use it but it just was a pain. However, both the stills and video are perfectly computable with everything.
FIRMWARE (aka feature): I never ever use the digital zoom feature. There's not point to it, that I can see. It's better just to crop it with your home software.
I really don't use ANY of the firmware features except review and -- rarely -- delete if I am running out of memory. MPEG MOVIE MODE -- very nice! Of course the picture quality is limited but the sound is terrific, making it a rewarding viewing experience. It is a wonderful tool for putting short clips on the web for the grandparents. With my hosting service (Photobucket), I can just upload the native file.
START UP TIME: This cameras is still faster in the start-up time than some newer cameras (especially when the batteries are fresh.) I love that.
HARDWARE:
THAT DANG RUBBER FLAP! That little rubber flap still annoys me. IT NEVER STAYS ON! Sometimes I scotch tape it but mostly it just bothers me. I almost never use those connectors and have considered cutting it off and covering it with duct tape -- except that now-and-again I use the AV out.
I really like the flash features -- I use nearly all the modes fairly often -- accept red eye reduction. I love how easy it is to switch between flash modes. No all cameras are that way.
The auto-timer is also very easy to use.
Auto focus almost never is wrong. It probably helps that there is no telephoto.
3.2 PIXELS is almost always enough. It means you can't severely crop your pictures. I now routinely use professional digital printing and have even done 5x7s which look great. 4x6s and web photos are very nice.
COLOR: When I compare professionally printed 4x6s with our old Olympus 35mm point-and-shoot camera, the film still wins (not by a lot) However, for the web, the Sony is much better than scanned prints from the Olympus.
BATTERY life is OK -- but not great. You will probably want to travel with an extra set. However, the fact that these are AAs means you can easily buy a set anywhere in the world, as needed. The supplied NiMH's seem to be getting weak but I still use them.
THE SCREEN -- IT is OK but not nearly as good as modern screens. Mostly, I use the viewfinder for shooting. Except on bright days, the screen is fairly useful but it can be hard to tell if someone's eyes are closed. WHAT I WANT FOR MY NEXT CAMERA:
* I want a real (mechanical) telephoto. I miss that the most.
* I want an optical viewfinder (many of the new cameras don't have them) but also one of those large bright screen. It is great to have either option.
* I want video. I have learned to really like taking video clips for sharing on the web.
* I want a camera that uses standard AAs. This has come in so-handy for long trips since I can leave the charger home and just buy them along the way. But, at home, I use NiMH- - - - -
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
EASE OF USE
Fairly easy for basic functions - taking a picture, reviewing pictures, setting resolution, deleting etc.
Some of the more advanced feature can be buried in menus. Many of the icons and other indicators on the screen are not obvious and one must refer to the manual. On at least one occasion, I found an item on the camera menu that wasn't in the index of the manual.
Despite what I listed above, I'd say this camera qualifies as easy to use.
PICTURE QUALITY look great on my home ink jet printer at 4X6. From a foot away, you can't tell that it isn't a traditional print. (just less vibrant)
AUTOFOCUS seems to work fine. Flash is more than adequate.
LOW LIGHT shooting is pretty good but could be better
COLOR ACCURACY is good but not perfect. I'm not sure if it is my printer or the camera, but traditional photos are distinctly more vibrant.
RESOLUTION. It is advertised as 3.3 megapixels but I saw somewhere in the literature that is "effectively" 3.3 megapixels. By my calculation it is 3.15 but so what? I which they'd say it like it is, anyway.
ZOOM is almost useless since it doesn't work at the highest resolution which is the resolution I use and almost never change. You'll just have to crop after you get the picture on the computer.
SHUTTER DELAY and RESET TIME are tolerable and much better than some of the cameras I played with in the store
I've seen bigger SCREENS on other cameras but it does the job. It is a little dim in daylight forcing you to use the eyepiece. You can easily turn the screen off to save batteries -- a nice feature.
The included BATTERY CHARGER is a nice touch and can be used for your other electronic items. However, it would have been classier for Sony to make the battery charger also work as AC adaptor like it does for video cameras. You can buy an adaptor for extra money, which isn't cool.
BATTERY LIFE if more than enough to fill up the chip. Probably, you'll want to buy an extra pair for backup. Since it uses standard AA, you could also just keep a pair of alkaline or NiMH batteries on hand to use in a pinch.
MEMORY STICK. I wish they would adopt a more common standard like the SD or MMC but other than that, it works just fine. I wish they also would include a bigger chip. You will probably have to go out and buy one. I bought 128MB which hold 91 pictures at full resolution but added...to the price of the camera.
The camera SIZE is like a small 35mm camera and is a little lighter than my Olympus 35mm Stylus.
No CAMERA CASE is included, which is a drag. I found one that fits perfectly ..., so that was easily solved.
The little RUBBER COVER that covers the plugs is not well designed. It falls off all the time and finally I put some scotch tape on it to keep it in place. This would not be a satisfactory solution if you use the USB cable but I use a card reader so I don't open the cover much.
VIDEO feature is fun but the picture quality is terrible. Still, it is fun to play with. You videos will make you look like one of those imbedded Iraqi reporters! The sound is quite good. You can also add voice attachment to still photos a feature that would be better if you could easily switch to it. Also, it frustratingly clips off that last couple second of your message.
The VOICE RECORDER (same as what I mention above) is a feature that is cool but not too useful since it is limited to about 45 seconds. Too bad. The camera could also serve as a cool voice recorder. It will work OK for short notes.
VIDEO OUT is pretty useful for reviewing your pictures if you are not near a computer (like on vacation.)
Included SOFTWARE is barely adequate. I found the ImageMixer software very frustrating until I finally got the learning curve going up. The help screens are not helpful. Still, it's free and works (sort of!) Probably, you'll want to buy another software package. Fortunately both the pictures and MPEG videos are open-formats and easily import into most programs.

The fun, easy-to-use Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P32 digital camera packs in more pixels and more features than its predecessor. With its 3.2-megapixel resolution, the Cyber-shot DSC-P32 produces stunning images in a diverse range of conditions. It's also one of the first Sony cameras to be compatible with Memory Stick Pro.
Step-up Value Here's a Sony feature that adds value to this digital camera and differentiates it from other models in the Sony lineup.

Optics and Resolution The 3.2-megapixel resolution creates images large enough to print 11-by-17-inch enlargements. The 14-bit DXP system plus Super HAD CCD combine to produce excellent image detail and stunningly smooth contrast and color rendition. The Cyber-shot DSC-P32 offers a 3.2x digital zoom.
Storage and Transfer Images are stored on Memory Sticks, and a 16 MB Memory Stick is included. The Cyber-shot DSC-P32 is also one of the first Sony cameras to be compatible with optional Memory Stick Pro media, which can extends data capacity up to 1 GB.
Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB connectivity, which means it can be connected to any USB-based Windows 98/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.
Movie Mode You can capture far more than still images with the MPEG Movie VX function. Most digital cameras' movie modes are limited to 30- or 60-second clips, but the Cyber-shot DSC-P32 can keep shooting until you've filled the memory card. When used with Memory Stick Pro media, you can shoot approximately 22 minutes of video.
More Features

The Multi-Pattern Measuring feature, independently light-metering 49 points of the frame, establishes a maximum exposure value, even where pronounced highlight and shadow are not centered
Five scene modes: twilight, twilight portrait, landscape, snow, and beach
Built-in flash with red-eye reduction, auto, forced on, forced off, and slow-syncro modes

Power, Size, and Contents The camera is powered by the NH-AA-DA rechargeable NiMH battery (included). It measures 4.0 by 2.3 by 1.3 inches and weighs 7.9 ounces. Samsung S860 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Black) Review

Samsung S860 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this camera as an addition to our Minolta digital SLR, just to have a small and convenient point and shoot for times that I don't want to drag the SLR around.
Samsung has put together a very good camera for this price, and it has a couple of nice things beyond the basics. I especially like the facial recognition feature, which makes sure that you actually get a focus on a person instead of sharp surroundings and a blurred human subject. The menus are very easy to use, and the camera itself takes very good action shots. There are eleven different photo settings from which to choose. It also takes small video clips. The photo quality is excellent and you can print up to poster size and maintain that quality. It is an 8.1 megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 3x digital zoom.
The body of the camera itself is small and compact, and it easily fits into standard blue jean pockets. It has a nice, solid feel to it and since I have small hands, it's very comfortable for me to use. A person with very large hands may want something bigger for ergonomic reasons.
The only down side to this camera is that you have to use the LCD screen to take your shot. There is no standard view finder. The LCD screen itself, however, is very large and extremely crisp.
This is an excellent camera if you are looking for a basic point and shoot with a few added perks beyond the most basic category. If you are looking for a camera with tons of settings, features and major zoom ability, you need to look elsewhere. However, for basic everyday use, Samsung has really put out a great product in the S860.

I thought this would be a great charger for my phone when the juice is gone and no outlet available, especially since it uses regular AA batteries (easily replaceable). I was Wrong. I don't write many reviews on here, but since there was only 1 review for this product, I thought I needed to write one. Here's the break down:
1. The lid is almost impossible to slide off. I thought it was me being an idiot, but I gave it to several other people and they had a hard time getting it off as well.
2. The led light is a joke. No brightness whatsoever.
3. MOST importantly, the charging doesn't work well at all. With 2 fresh batteries, it charged my phone for literally 1 minute then died. I would think 2 alkaline batteries would last longer than that.

Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries, Size AAA, 4-Count Packages (Pack of 3) Review

Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries, Size AAA, 4-Count Packages (Pack of 3)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, those Juice Rechargeable Alkaline Batteries cannot be recharged using ordinary NiMH chargers - not even the Juice Battery Family Charger. You need to find a charger specially designed for rechargeable alkaline cells, or use the Rayovac (PS3) Universal Battery Charger which can handle both NiMH and Rechargeable Alkaline Manganese (RAM) cells.
The Juice RAM cells are reincarnations of the Rayovac "Renewal" rechargeable alkaline cells. Rayovac marketed the Renewal batteries and charger system about 10-15 years ago. But due to various limitations (as explained later) it turned out a big failure, and Rayovac consequentially discontinued the whole Renewal product line.
On first glance, the concept of rechargeable alkaline cell sounds great, since it combines advantages from both ordinary alkaline cell (long shelf life, 1.5V terminal voltage) and rechargeable cell (multi-use). Unfortunately, it also inherited the biggest limitation of alkaline cell: high internal resistance. This makes it very inefficient when used in high-drain appliances such as digital camera or flash light. So it is only suitable for low-drain appliances such as wireless mouse, remote control, or smoke detector.
Another serious limitation is energy density. The manufacturer claims that a new Juice AA RAM cell has capacity of 2000mAh (tested with discharge current of 50mA down to 0.8V at 22 degree C). My own measurement using the La Crosse BC-900 has shown an average capacity of only 1440mAh (tested with 100mA down to 0.9V at 17 degree C). In comparison, the Duracell alkaline AA cell under identical test conditions provided 2220mAh, or 50% higher capacity! Worse yet, capacity of Juice RAM cell drops further with each deep-discharge cycle. After five more charge/discharge cycles, its remaining capacity is only around 1000mAh. In comparison, a typical NiMH cell can go through about 500 deep-discharge cycles before its capacity drops to 90% of original value. (This is under controlled test conditions, so in real life your mileage may vary)
The product description claims that Juice RAM cell can be recharged 'up to 100 times'. But this is completely misleading, because it can only be achieved if you shallow-discharge (discharge no more than 25% of capacity) the cell every time. That means you have to remove the cell and recharge it very frequently, before the low-battery indicator ever comes up.
In my opinion, it is just not worth the trouble to 'baby-sit' those rechargeable alkaline cells, especially since you can easily buy low-self-discharge NiMH cells (such as SANYO eneloop or Rayovac Hybrid) instead.
But in case anyone still wants to experiment with recharging alkaline cells, here is my suggestion: Just buy and use the ordinary Duracell alkaline cells. When those cells are nearly exhausted, recharge them using the Rayovac (PS3) Universal Smart Battery Charger. You can get half a dozen extra cycles out of them - at no additional cost!
[Update on Oct 24, 2010]
I have eight of those Juice Rechargeable alkaline AA cells stored in a box after testing. After about one year of storage, three of those cells leaked electrolyte badly through the negative terminals. Luckily they were not being used in appliances.

This may not be the top of the rechargable battery line but it works. There are a few things you might want to consider before buying. If you want a charger that automatically shuts off when done charging, this model isn't for you. It is capable of charging both AA and AAA batteries but nothing larger. The plug prongs on the back fold down for easier storage. You can charge other brands of NI-MH and Nl-Cd batteries but this one at least starts you off with 4 AAA NIMH rechargables. You could basically spend the money you would normally on disposables to buy this (how many batteries does your PDA eat?) Wouldn't it makes sense to give it a try?

Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash Light + Deluxe Flash Bracket Accessory Kit
Average Reviews:

I'm am a professional photographer and was in need of a flash. I bought the 580EX II because of its solid reputation, and the fact it's possibly the best on the market. I actually bought this kit because I liked the idea of the rechargeable batteries it included, and the Omni flash. Everything else was just...interesting, and I would take it for what it was. When the package arrived, it was well packed, but the flash mount and the extended shoe were probably the most useless items I have ever seen. The shoe extension wouldn't be too unwelcome on the shelf at the dollar store, and the extension doesn't ever mate with the flash that well. It will hold on solidly, but it requires an unnecessary amount of effort to get it correctly mounted.
My suggestion to everyone is to pass on the gimmick extras and only get one with rechargeable batteries included.

Kodak EasyShare Z1012 10.1MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Review

Kodak EasyShare Z1012 10.1MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I wanted a new camera, my first thought was one of the Japanese trinity: Canon, Nikon or Sony. I first got into Kodak almost by accident: we went on a trip and left our camera at home so I bought a V603 P&S on sale at Walmart. Loved it immediately! Crisp, bright pictures and several extras, like panorama shots and "perfect touch" one click editing that I found indispensable after awhile.
So when I wanted a bigger camera, I started looking at Kodak. I first saw the Kodak Z812IS, but when I saw the Z1012, I went for it. I've not been disappointed. I know that Kodak has made some dogs in the past few years, but I think you'll find this an excellent camera, and you'll like it even better if you're taking price into consideration.
Like others here have said, I ding it on battery life. You absolutely must get the charger and at least three rechargeable lithium batteries. Don't be confused when it says there's a lithium battery included in the kit: that's a one-use lithium, not a rechargeable.
Two more things about batteries: #1. The klic-8000 battery is the shape of two AA's. You can't use alkalines - they dip below peak current too quickly - but you can use the regular lithium AA's that you see in stores. It's an expensive way to go compared to rechargeables, but it works in a pinch. #2. Don't buy Kodak brand klic-8000's. There are some good aftermarket li-ions of the same size that are considerable cheaper and work just as well.
As for performance, you'll be pleased. The "smart" mode (S on the dial) works reasonably well, but it takes away all your options except suppressing the flash. Interestingly, smart mode applies the "perfect touch" editing automatically, and it usually results in a good picture. I often use it.
Mostly, though I switch to the "P" setting, which is a programmed setting with just a few more options, like lighter or darker. Honestly, for most of us, the shutter priority and aperture priority, much less the manual setup, will hardly ever be needed. If you're such a good photographer than you need them frequently, you're probably beyond a camera like this and already have a SLR. They're a selling point, though, and you can hardly imagine a $200+ camera that would dare to leave those features out.
You might be tempted by the 18X lenses on a few other brands in this camera configuration, but I think you'll be surprised at how much you get out of a 12X lens. Also, unlike all the digital cameras I've ever had, the digital zoom actually works very well. Obviously you get fewer pixels, but what you get is remarkably sharp, and you need make no apologies. That's probably why they call it "advanced digital zoom".
This model makes panoramas easy, and there's a big advantage to doing them in the camera: it locks the same settings for the whole panorama, so there's no line between frames as there is when you take three separate pictures and stitch them. The stitching "engine" is amazingly good.
And yes, there is HD video, and it looks pretty nice, but don't expect it to replace your video camera. For one thing, sound isn't that great, but what can you expect from tiny microphones behind tiny holes in the camera face? Really, this is a case of not how well the bear dances, but that it can dance at all. And yes, you can zoom while filming.
You've probably figured out by now, with these cameras, that there's really not as much flexibility as all the controls and options would make you think there is. To the point: low light pictures will make poor, grainy pictures, with anything short of a tripod, no matter how you set the camera. If you want more capacity in low light, get a high-end SLR.
Finally, if you're used to a pocket camera, having this larger thing around your neck will take some getting used to. This camera isn't huge, but it is too big for your shirt pocket. I wish they'd make a small camera with this much lens, but we're not quite there yet - though the (expensive) Canon PowerShot G9 has some wonderful features that make it almost worth giving up some lens power for.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
After using this about 4-5 months, I know a lot more about it than I did at first.
My pictures have been, overall, outstanding, on low ISO speeds. Not sure you'll get better anywhere. One thing I've learned is that the pictures are a lot better than they look on the camera. I think Kodak decided to save 50¢ by putting in a lower quality LCD, that really doesn't give you good feedback on picture quality. In fact, the LCD on my old V603 was far better.
There are occasional odd freeze-ups that I've had with this camera. It has never stopped working, but I have had to remove the battery once or twice. I also noticed recently that when I use an 8GB card, rendering pictures got really slow, like it had a lot of processing to do. Not sure what that's all about.
My biggest annoyance remains the bulk of the camera, after being used to a pocketable camera. I'm looking for a smaller camera to add to the camera bag, such as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K 9MP as a pocketable (though not small) camera--I used a friend's and was very impressed. For a very small camera, J.D. Powers has rated the Sony Cybershot T series (such as this Sony Cybershot DSC-T500 10.1MP) very high, though I've not tried it.

Fujifilm XL05 Accessory Travel Kit for Compact Digital Cameras Review

Fujifilm XL05 Accessory Travel Kit for Compact Digital Cameras
Average Reviews:

I will keep this review simple.
For the price this is an ok deal.
However:
The bag is a bit bulky and has no belt loop.
The battery charger is finicky and has below average build quality
Batteries are generic rechargeables.
You are better off finding a bag that fits your needs perfectly and picking up a separate charger/batteries. It will wind up costing you less in the long run.

JVC GR-D370 MiniDV Camcorder w/32x Optical Zoom Review

JVC GR-D370 MiniDV Camcorder w/32x Optical Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first camcorder I've ever owned. I saw it demonstrated on the shopping channel, and eventually went shopping myself for an equal good price. It's a 2006 model, and has only been around for a few months. After having it just a few days so far...I'd say so far so good! I'd have to say it's fairly simple to operate, and offers a great many bells & whistles for the price. The 32x optical zoom is what sold me, and it works like a charm. The digital zoom extends that to 64x and 800x. I have yet to try out the "super-zoom". The camera features stabilization control, but I'll admit its still tough to keep it steady even at 32x! The other features include night vision, live slow, an automatic focusing control, with auto white balance etc... and can operate as a digital (still) camera as well. If I was to make design changes, it would be to have some of the operating controls, FF - STOP - etc, on the outside of the unit, instead of having to open the LCD viewfinder to operate many of the basics. The only operational button within easy reach, is to release the pause mode & record from standby. Actually, the button to take "a picture" is right there too.
Battery power is ok I guess. The rechargeable pack (included) allows up to 90 min on average. To upgrade to a 3 hr or 7 hr battery will cost you!! No SD memory card included either.
So in the end, if you compare the features and prices of JVC's competitors, I'd say they did pretty well with this one.

Thanks to a new auto feature, the GR-D370 is extremely easy to use. With a simple touch of a button, you can instantly switch between manual and automatic operation. At the heart of the camcorder is a 1/6-inch 680,000 pixel CCD. Other features include a data battery function that displays time remaining with and without LCD use; live slow, which records in slow motion while retaining real-time audio; an Auto Illumi-Light mode for illuminating dark scenes; Power-Linked operation that turns on the power and puts the camcorder in standby mode simply by opening the LCD; and a 2.5-inch LCD color monitor that delivers a bright, clear image by reducing reflection and glares, even in bright sunlight. Olympus WS-500 Digital Voice Recorder (Silver) Review

Olympus WS-500 Digital Voice Recorder (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this as a backup to my other Olympus recorder (which I frequently lend out). My other recorder is an Olympus WS-100 which I bought 4 years ago. It was one of the first digital voice recorders ever made. It has served me well.
This unit contains a number of improvements over the WS-100 and the WS-400.
When I bought this, I was afraid I would have to carry around a USB cable with me. However, this unit has a little slide button on the side which extends a built-in USB connector. Plugging this into a USB port is a snap.
This unit is a little more compact than the WS-100. It also seems to solve the record delay which was a time vampire on the WS-400. This unit starts to record immediately on pressing the record button.
I would give this unit five stars except except the menu is almost indecipherable without spending an entire day memorizing and studying it. This means that you pretty much have to have the manual available for the first months you use this, or memorize the manual, or, you will not be able to use most of the features. (Unfortunately, this seems normal for most digital personal devices nowadays (except for some Apple products)).
The arcane menu arrangement does not lend itself to quick and easy use of the unit if there are constant changes to your recording requirements. For example, as far as I can figure out from the arcane manual you must press two separate buttons, a total of five times in order to something really simple like erase a recording. I erase more recordings than I keep and this is a real time vampire.
Other than that the plusses are that it supports Vista 64 bit, and, contains all of the features of the WS-400. The unit is easy to snap record conversations and other items. One feature I really like is that it comes with its own, easily replaceable, NiMH battery. If you keep this unit plugged into your USB port, it will repeatedly charge the battery. (It is a REAL advantage that it doesn't need its own docking station to charge, or, new batteries every few hours of use).
It is a good buy at the price and easier to use, with all of the features, even with its drawbacks, than any of the other small personal recorders I've looked at over the years by other manufacturers.
Specifications:
Recording Format: WMA
Input level: -70dBv
Maximum working output: 60mW (8 ohm speaker)
NAND FLASH memory 2GB - this unit works excellently as a flash drive with VISTA 64 or 32.
MIC Jack:3.5mm mini-jack; impedance 2k ohms
EAR jack: 3.5mm mini-jack; impedance 8 ohms or more
RECORDING TIMES:
STXQ mode 34 h 30 min.
STHQ mode 69 h 40 min.
STSP mode 139 h 25 min.
HQ mode 139 h 25 min.
SP mode 247 h 10 min.
LP mode 544 h. 55 min.

Motorola NiMH Rechargeable Battery Upgrade Kit for T6200, T6300, and T6400 Series Radios (56319) Review

Motorola NiMH Rechargeable Battery Upgrade Kit for T6200, T6300, and T6400 Series Radios (56319)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First let me say that the T6220 radios I have are outstanding. This review, however, is for the rechargable battery system.
Firstly; it works and works well. I have owned it for a year or so, and the batteries have performed splendidly. I have a complaint and recomedation for new buyers: The snaps are fragile, and will eventually break. There is a piece that comes with this kit that has the plug on one end (that goes into the wall outlet) and the 'snap' on the other that snaps onto the radio for recharging. This 'snap' piece is quite thin, and if you use the radio with any regularity you will be snapping and unsnapping your radio quite a bit, and it will break. I can only recommend two remedies;
1- Don't lose the piece that breaks off. You can superglue it back on and it will be fine until it breaks again.
2- ALWAYS use the BASE that comes with this kit. What the base is is this: a big thingamijig that is for wall mounting and the like. You only have to snap the fragile snap thing i spoke of earlier into the base once, so you avoid breaking it. It is quite sturdy, but be careful when removing the radio from the base so you don't rip off the battery cover (the base is strong and wont let go of the radio. It attaches to the radio via the battery cover). To remove the radio from the base more easily, wedge a finger between the radio and the base in the area of the battery cover.
Overall, its still good, and it beats buying batteries.

I purchased 3 units. Two of them worked fine on all settings. One of them did not work as a slave. (this is disappointing)
The slave mode can be used within a few feet. The flash units are nice if you have a wireless flash trigger.
The reload time after a flash is a few seconds on a new battery. The flash is strong and a diffuser is needed for nice light. They are small and easy to carry around.

The device is workable for both direct hot shoe photography (when switches to Normal mode) and remote flash photography (when switches to Slave On mode. The device features 4 slave modes that allow it to work with cameras that fire their built-in flash instantaneously or that have single or multiple flash red-eye reduction systems. Please check your camera's owner manual to determine which flash system your camera has.The flash comes complete with a bracket. It has a hot shoe so that it can be fired from the camera too. It is fully synchronized with fill-in flash and red-eye reduction flash and can be used with virtually all of the digital cameras on the market. It works as a slave. It can be set for a single flash camera or a pre-flash camera.
