I use the top-of-line slow recharger from MAHA, and even with attempts to revive them two of four wouldn't hold a charge and my camera wouldn't even turn on with the batteries fresh from the charger.
The weight of these batteries gives you some sense that these could be subpar made - when I compare the weight of these batteries in-hand with those from another manufacturer I noticed these have half the weight of other AAs. (More customer reviews)So, I was going crazy reading reviews for the Nikon grip and the Opteka grip. My conclusion was that the Opteka is the exact same thing as the Nikon based on the reviews. Only difference is Opteka lacks the Nikon brand name printed on the grip.
I spent the day in Chicago taking pictures and it was awesome not worrying about running out of battery life. The batteries that come with seem to work great! It's an over all great value.
I gave this product 4 out of 5 stars because I'm not thrilled with the plastic that the grip is made out of. I think it could be better but I had read that its the same as the Nikon and for the huge price difference, I think I can do without the Nikon brand name. I also read that the Nikon shutter release is VERY touchy/sensitive. The Opteka shutter release works great. I've yet to encounter any problems with this product and I would highly recommend it.
Incase you were wondering, the Opteka grip can be used with a tripod. I had a little bit of trouble finding that info out before I bought it so there it is!

Ok, so, I just bought the Nikon battery grip and I just wanted to say that the Nikon grip is better. When I have my Nikon 80-200mm lens attached, the Opteka grip felt a little weaker. The Nikon grip has rubber on it and the opteka does not. I feel that my grip with the Nikon grip is much more satisfactory. The Nikon grip is also a little smaller. There is NO WAY that the Opteka company used the same molds as Nikon to make this product. It's bigger and has a very different feel and look. The Opteka isn't terrible and I would recommend it if you're on a budget. Performance wise, its just as good as Nikon.

(More customer reviews)I purchased two sets of 4 Sunpack AA batteries (2650) about 3 or 4 years ago, and they still work great. I am a pro-wedding photographer and take many many AA batteries to every wedding/session and really need good charge time as much as fast recycle time (for my off camera flashes). Recently, I decided I should probably get some extra batteries since I've doubled my AA-needing-equipment. I bought two more sets (at the same local camera shop), and waited about a month before I took them out of the package to charge them up. I put them in my Maha smart charger only to find that 2 of the 8 batteries would register on the charger screen. It was like they weren't even on there. I took all of them out, tried putting just the two back in, and still...phantom batteries. I tried several other ways of putting them into the charge, but still nothing. So, I marked the other 6 batteries with a sharpie to distinguish them from my other batteries just in case I had future problems with the rest. Sure enough, at the following wedding I set up my lights on the reception dance floor and was sorely disappointed when my flashes wouldn't fire. After a close examination and ruling all possibilities out, I discovered they wouldn't fire with the newer charged Sunpack batteries. (this is also after doing a "conditioning" on my charger). So I am currently seeking to find some more reliable, fast recycling AA batteries.

I bought this kit from Butterfly Photo because I bought the Fuji film camera about 2-3 months earlier. When putting the Fuji film camera on the stand it snapped and fell over! However, after one quick email to butterfly photo explaining what a dud this was they took care of it immediately. In about 5 days I received new batteries and new charger and a new stand! All of which worked perfectly. They told me just to throw away the broken stuff so i did not have to worry about shipping the broken stuff back. The really wanted to make sure I got a working product. They were great! Also the tripod is really cool. It doesn't need to be tall be cause it wraps around anything! Lamps, tables etc etc!

(More customer reviews)This new AC unit does not have a switch on it. I believe the switch on the older AC units was to allow you to switch between using the unit as an AC adapter or use the unit to charge your battery. We were not sure if the new unit would work - so we tested it:
We received this new charger/adapter and plunged it into her computer. Her computer battery was at this time totally discharged and dead. The HP mini 5101 booted right up and worked just fine. Test #1 completed> This new adapter works fine as an AC adapter for a HP mini 5101.
We shut off the computer and left this new adapter plugged in over night. The computer indicated the battery was charging. The next afternoon she unplugged the new adapter and took the computer in the field. It worked flawlessly for over 2 hours on the battery. Test #2 completed> This new adapter works great as a battery charger for a HP mini 5101.

(More customer reviews)with the onset of the holiday season, and realizing that the small battery that came with my camera was inadequate with a two year old and two sets of grandparents at Christmas time, i set forth to find a secondary battery to alleviate this problem. Now i only had a few requirements. the first is the battery must work without any gizmos, extra cables, or trying to bypass the built-in charging or connections, which i have seen in a few other batteries. second, it had to be able to run for an extended period of time, since the two year old isn't going to hesitate for a second whilst ripping open gaily wrapped packages to let daddy replace the battery.
upon entering my camera model into Amazon i was surprised by the number of products that came up. lenses, batteries, cases and a few random items that didn't make too much sense. upon narrowing my search i finally came across this product. not only did I get my battery, but I got a second battery, as well as a charging system that allows me to replenish the power in my battery from my vehicle, at home, and in numerous countries around the world. ah, the wonders of modern technology. while there are times that buying a non-OEM product can be a problem, the price was perfect and i took the risk.
I received my batteries only a few days later, even without Prime. yes, they are a third party retailer, but their shipping policy is very good, with a low minimum purchase to get free shipping. while the packaging was minimalist (but i do not purchase batteries for the package they come in) it was acceptable and properly sent.
The batteries fit perfectly into my camera and are recognized promptly, with no problems whatsoever. now i can let my camera run for hours on end without having to worry about suddenly seeing the blinking red symbol that signals that my battery is about to run dry. and with TWO of these batteries I can make videos of my daughter for hours on end, much to the delight and amusement of the grandparents.
I heartily recommend this product, and will definitely look towards this company when next I need to replenish batteries for one of the number of cameras that are owned by people living within my residence.

(More customer reviews)Okay battery grip for 50D, definitely not the same mold as Canon's as the seller stated. The battery door and battery holder is very flimsy... I'm a little concern to see if it can last long or not. The battery door pops in/out... wiggling around if you touch it. Not a very good seal, in case of bad weather. Maybe I got a defective one? Just not very sure about quality to recommend it to others. Since I am very careful with my camera, I may learn to live with it. Other than that, it was a very easy installation--came with everything as described by seller (ir remote, controls, etc). Shipping is very fast!
I expected them to be a better quality after reading the selling pitches in the item descriptions. O Well, if you could afford a Canon grip, go for it. It is a better mold and it is weather sealed. I know I'll have to get a Canon grip in the future since I don't think this one will last that long with the battery door being so flimsy attached.

Duracell CEF20NC NIMH Rechargeable Mini Charger Review

(More customer reviews)In Amazon's labyrinth of Duracell products, at least half a dozen versions of this Duracell "mini" charger exist. Unfortunately, the descriptions do not provide sufficient detail to tell if there are any differences. This review applies to the CEF20 charger that comes with 2 AA 2400mAh rechargeable batteries that have not been pre-charged. These value packs can be found easily in stores, which is where I picked mine up.
Charger pros:
-Works internationally (100-240V)
-Charge light turns from red to green when complete
Charge cons:
-Despite its name, bulky design only holds 2 batteries in nearly the same space other chargers hold 4
-Flip lid seems unnecessary and is prone to scratching
-Full charge takes about 8 hours (must leave in wall overnight)
Battery pro:
-AA 2400mAh rating lasts a long time during a single use (e.g., a full day of photography)
Battery con:
-Batteries have high drain when not in use, unlike newer low self-discharge designs
Note: Since purchasing this value pack in April 2009, I now see a newer version on the shelf that contains pre-charged batteries. I have bought the pre-charged Duracell batteries separately and have been very satisfied with them.
If you are going to use an inexpensive battery charger, this is a better choice than Energizer simply because it can be used internationally and automatically shuts off when the batteries are fully charged. However, if you have the flexibility, I recommend a 4-position Duracell, Kodak, or Sanyo charger with better charge time instead. A value pack from Sanyo, for example, costs a bit more than this Duracell pack but includes a faster charger with 4 positions plus 4 (not 2) AA batteries!
I would have purchased a better charger online rather than pick this up at my local drugstore had I had more time prior to an international trip. This set me back only about 12 bucks, but I would rather have used the money to replace rather than supplement my old Energizer charger. However, this charger/battery value pack may be a good deal for some people.

I was in the upper bleachers and was able to take clear pictures and videos of her from about fifty to sixty feet away. The 12 mega pixels makes for great pictures at normal distances. I did not get a second set of good rechargeable batteries, but the charger was convenient especially with the car charger. I have since purchased a more reliable charger and batteries, as well as a taller tripod. In the meantime, it is compact and powerful. I have owned traditional SLR's in the past and I am very satisfied with this purchase.
