(More customer reviews)I only plugged it in and tried it with my 17" HP Pavilion DV7 for long enough to see that it does power the laptop and charge the battery, and the plug fits securely into the socket on the laptop (which is more than I can say for the original HP cord).
My only complaint is that the cord is only about 6 feet, which sounds like a lot, but it isn't enough to stretch comfortably from the lighter adapter in the dash to a passenger in the back seat, for example (if it could go right through the seat, maybe, but it has to go over the seats or between or around them in most cars). If you have a 12-volt outlet very close to your seat, or you just want to use it to charge the battery, it should work fine. I bought mine to use with the 12-volt system in an RV, but the cord isn't long enough to reach from any of the 12-volt outlets to any of the tables or seating areas.
It would be nice if it had a 90-degree plug, too. Having a couple of inches of plug sticking out the side of the laptop, especially in a confined space, is just asking to get it broken. HP cords are made the same way though, and their plugs are even a little longer, so it's more a wishful thought than a complaint.
