(More customer reviews)The battery charger in this set has an odd holder mechanism. It makes contacts with the C size batteries, but does not "hold them in". It creates an almost casual contact, in fact. I thought the batteries probably wouldn't charge this way, but they did.
So far I have only used the NiMH setting because I have no NiCd batteries. I have charged all 8 of the Tenergy batteries included. Due to the high mAh of these batteries, it says to charge them twice. Well, I only charged them once, but I left them in the charger for almost twice as long. The instructions actually say to unplug/turn the charger off and back on for the "second" charge (8 hours being one "charge").
This charger can be used for a wide range of battery sizes, too. I have AA, AAA, C, 9V, and D and it covers all of those. I'm actually still using the C type batteries in a small handheld water pump and they have not run out yet. It's been about 2 weeks for that one set of 3 batteries in the pump. I use the pump 6 days per week for about 5 minutes each day. The AAs I charged I haven't used yet, but, since they have a lower capacity, I am sure they will work even better.
The batteries themselves do have very short positive terminals, which I am sure would cause some difficulties in certain devices where this contact needs to be more prominent. They're very plain Jane looking, which is kind of neat. No fancy logos here. But as I said, they seem to last plenty long enough. The batteries and charger together were a real bargain given how they perform.
